2023: Marcus Allen

Marcus Allen is one of the greatest NFL and Collegiate Running Backs of all time.  A former Heisman Trophy winner and a Pro Football Hall of Famer, Marcus Allen will long be remembered as one of the best to ever play the game at any level.  As a Super Bowl Champ, Super Bowl MVP, League MVP, and comeback player of the year, Marcus is arguably the most decorated athlete of all-time. Even now, Marcus Allen’s career continues to impress fans of both the college and professional level.  He is arguably the best goal line runner to have ever played the game.  A true Hall of Famer, his career on the field was the stuff of legends and he continues to live up to his reputation as an All-Star even in retirement.

Marco Christian Carducci is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a goalkeeper for Canadian Premier League club Cavalry FC and Canada national team.

First CPL player to get a call to the Canadian National team. Won the 2019 VW Premier Performer of the Year award and the Golden Glove award. Tallied 9 clean sheets in 2019, most in regular season play.

Mitch Otsberg is the long-time wrestling coach at U of C.

Born in Dominion City MB, he went to Roseau Valley Collegiate in Dominion City for high school where his high school wrestling coach was Bill Whiteway. He then went on to graduate in 1983 from the University of Manitoba with a BSC. Mech Eng and NCCP Level 4 Coach Certification.

Mitch is the six time Canadian National Wrestling Champion and Edinburgh 1986 Commonwealth Games Champion (all 57 kgs weight class); 7th in the 1986 Senior World Championships; 10th in the 1991 Senior World Championships. 

Mitch has spent 32 years as the full time Dinos wrestling coach. Completed his 29th Dinos varsity season this year; won five USport team titles for the Dinos. He has coached numerous Senior, Junior, and University World championships; Commonwealth championships; and Pan-Am Championships, countless national and regional championships at Senior, Junior, Juvenile as well as USport, CIS, CIAU, and Can West. In the USport coaching area 5x CIS National Coach of the Year; and, 9x Canada West Coach of the Year.

Jason Ribeiro is a father, community advocate, and Vice-Chairman & President of the Calgary Surge Professional Basketball Club.  

Jason holds degrees from McMaster University, York University, and Brock University, and is currently a nationally-awarded Doctoral Researcher at the University of Calgary – a point of pride for a kid who began his time in university on academic probation.

Jason has held progressively senior roles in global consulting and economic development, and is regularly relied upon for trusted thought leadership and public affairs commentary in local and national media. A passionate corporate director and community volunteer, Jason serves on boards and committees within the Alberta Motor Association, Sport Calgary, and EducationMatters. He recently received the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his significant contributions to Alberta. However, Jason’s greatest achievement is the family life he’s built with his wife, Dr. Natalie Scime and their young son Matteo.

His latest venture, the Calgary Surge, is an extension of his passions and unwavering commitment to the city he loves in his bones. Jason is steadfast in his belief that the sport of basketball can bring people together and help build a Calgary that leaves no one behind.

Eric Francis is a Calgary sports columnist and throughout his successful career as a sports columnist, he has covered nearly everything – from the Calgary Flames and Calgary Stampeders to the British Open, Super Bowl, Olympics, and more!

Eric is also a best-selling author and long-time morning show host on JACK FM who spent two years on Hockey Night in Canada before moving over to Sportsnet where he is a Flames TV analyst and senior columnist.   

Eric is extremely active in the community, emceeing various charity events, and has been a KidSport ambassador for over 20 years as part of several initiatives, including the creation of the Charity Hotstove, Hire Eric for a Day and his beloved Eric Francis Pizza Pigout, which has raised almost $1 million for Kidsport Calgary.

Tommy Wheeldon Jr. is the Head Coach and General Manager of Cavalry FC.

Tommy Wheeldon Jr. has been in charge of Cavalry FC for four years, posting the highest accumulated regular-season points over the previous three CPL seasons combined. The 2019 CPL Coach of the Year has helped create an exciting, high-energy, and intelligent playing identity for the team that plays out of Spruce Meadows.

During his time at the helm, the club has reached the post-season play in all three seasons, including winning the inaugural Spring and Fall regular seasons of 2019, along with being the back-to-back Wildrose Cup holders for the ‘Al Classico’ match-ups versus FC Edmonton.  The former Calgary Storm defender now enters his 20th year of living in the city he now calls ‘home’, and continues to be an advocate for the growth of the soccer landscape in Canada.
